Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not Aware of Any Format by Which Consultations or Negotiations Can Take Place with Official Ankara
1 / 5

At March 29 sitting of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, after presenting the report on procedure and results of the implementation of the Government programme for 2020 the NA Foreign Minister Ara Aivazian answered to the deputies’ questions.

The deputy of the NA Prosperous Armenia Faction Arman Abovyan was interested in the fact if the hints that Armenia would review the relations with Turkey in the context of the new situation in the region were correct.

The Minister has reminded that Armenia’s official position on the foreign policy is voiced by the RA Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister: “Since the independence of Armenia until recent days Armenia made initiatives in the settlement of the relations with Turkey. The last one was the Zurich process that became void by Turkey.” Aivazian highlighted the principle of reciprocity: “Our initiative on the settlement of the honest relations without preconditions was not reciprocated by the official Ankara, moreover Armenophobia of the last century, the climax of which was the Armenian Genocide, has not only been stopped, but has also been exported to our region,” the Minister said.

Aivazian has stressed that everybody very well realize what opportunities and perspectives can create the peace, and eventually the reconciliation, but they are not merely nice words. “And in order we genuinely have peace in our region, we expect that Turkey will have serious and radical changes in its aggressive policy towards Armenia and eliminate its hostile actions,” he said.

The Minister has assured that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not aware of any format by which consultation or negotiations with official Ankara can take place.
